West Virginia registered nurse licenses are regulated by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses (WV RN Board). West Virginia is a member of the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Note: WV has separate boards for RN and LPN.

Continuing Education Requirements

- 24 contact hours per 2-year cycle
- 12 hours in pharmacotherapeutics

West Virginia-Specific Notes
- Compact state. If WV is your primary state of residence, you may hold a multistate license.
- Separate RN and LPN boards. West Virginia maintains separate regulatory boards for RNs and LPNs — an unusual arrangement.

- Expiration date changing to June 30 per HB 4110 legislation.
- Safe prescribing/drug diversion CE — newly licensed RNs must complete 3 hours within their first year.
- 12 CE hours is relatively low compared to many states' 20-30 hour requirements.
- $20 WV Restore/Nurse Health fee added to the standard $90 renewal fee ($110 total).
