Complete at least one of the following within the 2-year renewal period:

  1. 520+ work hours in a position requiring an RN/LPN license
  2. 24 contact hours of approved continuing education
  3. Current certification in a nursing specialty area
  4. Board-approved refresher course
  5. 6+ academic semester credit hours of nursing coursework at current licensure level or higher

Oklahoma-Specific Notes

  • Compact state. If Oklahoma is your primary state of residence and you meet Uniform Licensure Requirements, you may hold a multistate license.
  • Five competency pathways. The 520 work hours option is the most common alternative to CE — many working nurses satisfy this through regular employment.
  • Birth-month expiration. License expires on the last day of your birth month in even-numbered years.
  • ANCC-accredited courses accepted.
  • No mandatory CE topics for general RN/LPN renewal (unlike many states).
  • APRN additional requirements: 15 CE hours (or 1 academic credit) in pharmacotherapeutics + 2 hours in pain management or opioid use/addiction.
  • Tax compliance no longer required for renewal (effective November 2023).
  • Retain CE documentation for at least 4 years.
  • Military support: Licensure support services available for veterans, active military, and military spouses.
