New Hampshire registered nurse licenses are regulated by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, under the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC). New Hampshire is a member of the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Continuing Education Requirements

RN and LPN — 30 Contact Hours Every 2 Years

  • 30 contact hours of approved CE during the 2-year licensure period
  • CE must enhance nursing knowledge, skills, and judgment
  • Approved CE includes conferences, workshops, lectures, and other educational offerings
  • ANCC-accredited courses accepted
  • First renewal after passing NCLEX within past 2 years: exempt from CE requirement

Active Practice Requirement

In addition to CE, you must meet one of these:

  • 400 hours of active nursing practice within the 4 years immediately before renewal, OR
  • Successfully completed NCLEX within 2 years of application, OR
  • Completed a Board-approved refresher program within 2 years of application

New Hampshire-Specific Notes

  • Compact state. If New Hampshire is your primary state of residence, you may hold a multistate license. Include the Declaration of Primary Residency Form and a copy of your NH driver's license when applying.
  • CE Broker required. Continuing education must be tracked through CE Broker. More information available on the Board's website.
  • Online renewal is mandatory. Paper applications are no longer accepted for renewals.
  • First-time renewals: You'll need to use the registration code provided in your renewal notification to create an online account.
  • Renewal notification mailed approximately 6 weeks before expiration.
  • Application valid for 180 days. If incomplete after 180 days, it's discarded and you must reapply.
  • Background check processing: Can take 4–6 weeks. Cannot receive a license until results are received and reviewed.
  • Retain CE documentation for at least 4 years.
  • No specific mandatory CE topics for general RN/LPN renewal.

How to Renew

  1. Complete 30 contact hours of approved CE (tracked via CE Broker)
  2. Verify you meet the 400-hour active practice requirement
  3. Log in to the OPLC online portal
  4. Complete the renewal application
  5. Pay the $108 renewal fee
  6. Verify license status after processing
