Nevada-Specific Notes

  • Not a compact state. You must hold a Nevada-specific license to practice in the state.
  • Birthday-based expiration. License expires on your birthday every 2 years.
  • Renewal window: 60 days before expiration. The renewal link disappears after the 60-day window passes.
  • No grace period. Renewals after expiration incur an additional $100 fee. No practice allowed on an expired license.
  • Self-attestation with random audits. You affirm CE compliance at renewal and retain certificates for at least 4 years. The Board conducts random audits monthly.
  • Practice requirement: Must have practiced nursing or passed NCLEX within the previous 5 years. Otherwise, a refresher program or NCLEX retake is required.
  • MEDCEU is not an approved provider — check the Board's approved provider list.
  • Bioterrorism certificate: Keep indefinitely.
  • Online renewal only through the Nevada Nurse Portal. Processing takes up to 7 business days.
  • Fingerprinting may be required at renewal — check your Nurse Portal for notifications within 24 hours of submission.
