Continuing Education Requirements
RN and LPN
Missouri does not require continuing education for RN or LPN license renewal. Simply complete the application and pay the fee. This makes Missouri one of the simplest states for nursing license renewal.
APRN
APRNs must maintain current national board certification, which typically includes its own CE requirements. The APRN license expires when either the national certification or RN license expires, whichever comes first.
Missouri-Specific Notes
- No CE required. Zero continuing education hours needed for standard RN and LPN renewal.
- Compact state. Missouri joined the eNLC in 2018. If Missouri is your primary state of residence, you may hold a multistate license. Nurses from other compact states with multistate licenses can practice in Missouri without a separate license.
- No grace period. The Board requires renewal at least 3 business days before the expiration date. There is no grace period.
- Renewal directions emailed approximately 3 months before expiration. Use the PIN and license number provided in the renewal notice.
- Nursys e-Notify enrollment is mandatory for renewal. Enroll if you haven't already.
- No physical licenses or permits issued. License status is verified through Nursys.
- If license lapses: Reinstatement required with additional fees ($50 per year lapsed + renewal fee) and a new fingerprint background check.
- All fees include a $5 surcharge deposited into the professional and practical nursing student loan and nurse repayment fund.
- Application retired after 1 year if requirements are not met. You will not be notified — you must reapply.
