Virginia-Specific Notes

  • Virginia-customized NCCP. While following the NCCP framework, Virginia has its own standardized course equivalencies, credit allocations, and maximum hours per course offering.
  • Virginia Intermediate level is a unique level between AEMT and Paramedic not found in most states (55 total hours).
  • Only OEMS-approved online vendors accepted. CE completed through non-approved websites will NOT count toward Virginia recertification. A specific list of approved vendors is maintained on the OEMS website.
  • CE cannot be self-reported. Approved vendors report directly to OEMS electronically. Education Coordinators do not upload vendor-reported CE.
  • Automatic recertification. If all required hours are complete in all categories by your expiration date, OEMS will automatically recertify you and mail a new card.
  • Allow 48-72 hours for CE from approved vendors to appear on your OEMS CE Report.
  • Course completion certificates are for personal records only — do not submit to OEMS unless requested.
  • Complete CE at least 30 days before expiration to allow processing time.
  • Duplicate courses within the same cycle are not awarded credit more than once.
  • Auxiliary course breakdown outlines which courses qualify for credit in each domain with maximum caps.

How to Renew

  1. Complete all required CE hours across National, State/Local, and Individual components
  2. Ensure CE is from OEMS-approved vendors and appears on your CE Report
  3. Verify your CE Report shows all categories satisfied
  4. OEMS will automatically recertify if all requirements are met by expiration
