Utah-Specific Notes

  • NREMT required for all levels. All providers must maintain current NREMT certification. Utah uses NREMT to track and verify CME hours.
  • CME verification deadlines differ by level. EMT/AEMT/Paramedics must complete CME verification on NREMT.org by March 31. EMR by September 30.
  • NREMT does NOT automatically renew Utah license. You must separately complete the Utah renewal application at emslicense.utah.gov.
  • State License User Only (SLO) providers: Those who obtained Utah certification before the NREMT transition may not need full NREMT certification but must still submit CME hours through a state-license-only NREMT account.
  • Fingerprint background check (one-time). Required at initial application through DACS/BCI. Fee increased to $74 effective July 2025.
  • State-approved refresher courses follow the NCCP National Component requirements.
  • CAPCE-accredited courses accepted.
  • Working in the field does NOT count as CME. Neither does coursework for AEMT or Paramedic upgrade programs.
  • Recertification by exam is an alternative — submit application on NREMT between April 1 of the year before expiration and the expiration date.

How to Renew

  1. Complete NREMT NCCP CE hours for your level
  2. Complete CME verification on NREMT.org by the deadline (March 31 or September 30)
  3. Submit renewal application at emslicense.utah.gov
  4. Submit current NREMT certification
  5. Pay the renewal fee
