Tennessee-Specific Notes

  • 50% classroom/live requirement. This is one of Tennessee's most distinctive requirements. CAPCE F5 virtual instructor-led courses satisfy the live requirement.
  • State CE hours are lower than NREMT NCCP. TN requires 20 EMT hrs vs. 40 NREMT; 32 Paramedic hrs vs. 60 NREMT.
  • Birth-month expiration. License expires on the last day of your birth month. Even birth year = even expiration year; odd birth year = odd expiration year.
  • CE Broker is the official tracking system. Free Basic Account provided to all licensed personnel.
  • Pediatric CE mandatory for Paramedics. 8 hours must be in pediatric-related topics.
  • Critical Care Paramedic is a recognized level with additional 10 hours of critical care content.
  • License retirement option available. Providers can formally retire their EMS license and use titles like "Paramedic-R."
  • CAPCE-accredited courses accepted.
  • Current CPR Healthcare Provider card required.
  • Lapsed more than 2 years: Must complete full training course again.
