Minnesota-Specific Notes

  • NREMT will be required by 2036. Minnesota is transitioning toward requiring NREMT certification at all provider levels. Plan ahead.
  • NREMT shortcut. If you renew through NREMT first, you just transfer your NREMT transcript and supporting documents to the eLicense portal. No need to enter CE details twice.
  • March 31 deadline is firm. All certifications expire March 31 of the expiration year.
  • Reinstatement available for certifications expired less than 4 years. A temporary provision (through December 31, 2025) allowed reinstatement for certifications expired 4–10 years.
  • Download your certification card from the eLicense portal after approval. No physical cards mailed.
  • CAPCE-accredited courses accepted.
  • Community Paramedic certification available for paramedics who complete additional approved training.

How to Renew

  1. Choose your renewal pathway
  2. Complete all required CE hours (including pediatric topics under 2025 model)
  3. If using NREMT: Complete NREMT recertification first, then transfer transcript to eLicense
  4. Log in to MN EMS eLicense Portal
  5. Submit renewal application before March 31
  6. Generate and download your updated certification card
