Georgia EMT, AEMT & Paramedic License Renewal Requirements
Georgia EMS personnel licenses are regulated by the Georgia Department of Public Health, Office of EMS and Trauma (OEMST). Georgia uses the EMS License Management System (LMS) for all applications and CE tracking. NREMT is required for initial licensure but not for state renewal.

CE Must Be Entered in LMS
All licensed personnel must input their CE for each renewal cycle into the EMS License Management System. If you attend an OEMST-approved course, the instructor may add you to the roster automatically — check before entering it yourself to avoid duplicates.
Acceptable CE Sources
Only two types of CE are accepted:
- Georgia OEMST-approved courses (instructor adds to roster in LMS)
- CAPCE-accredited courses (you enter certificates in LMS)
Georgia-Specific Notes
- NREMT not required for renewal, but Georgia follows the NREMT NCCP model. If you maintain NREMT, you'll satisfy Georgia's CE requirements and can submit your NREMT certification through LMS.
- No reciprocity process. If you're coming from out of state, you must hold current NREMT certification to apply for a Georgia license.
- License expiration aligns with NREMT. Your Georgia license expires the same year as your NREMT expiration date.
- CPR and ACLS required. Upload scanned copies (front and back) of your signed CPR card. Paramedics must also upload ACLS card.
- Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement available (separate application, see OEMST website for updated Scope of Practice).
- Fingerprint-based background check required through GAPS/Idemia since January 1, 2025 (Service Code 2TGJY5).
- Late renewal: Additional $75 late fee. If lapsed, license is "Failure to Renew" status — you cannot practice until renewed.
- Audits: The OEMST may audit CE documentation. Save all certificates.
How to Renew
- Complete required CE hours (40 for EMT/AEMT/Paramedic, 16 for EMT-R)
- Enter all CE in the LMS education report
- Ensure CPR card (and ACLS for Paramedics) is current
- For EMT-R: Renew NREMT EMR certification first
- Log in to mygemsis.org/lms and complete the renewal application
- Upload required documents (CPR, ACLS, etc.)
- Pay the renewal fee (credit/debit card has $2.75 processing charge)
Fees
Contact OEMST for current fee schedules. Late renewals incur a $75 late fee.
