Continuing Education Requirements
EMT
- Total CE Hours: 30 hours every 2 years
- Pediatric Requirement: At least 2 hours in pediatric emergencies
- Current CPR certification required
Paramedic
- Total CE Hours: 30 hours every 2 years
- Pediatric Requirement: At least 2 hours in pediatric emergencies
- Current CPR and ACLS certification required (ACLS must be from a program mirroring AHA standards)
For Providers Also Maintaining NREMT
If you also hold NREMT certification, you'll need to complete the full NREMT NCCP hours (40 for EMT, 60 for Paramedic) — Florida's 30 hours alone won't satisfy NREMT requirements.
Florida-Specific Notes
- CE Broker is mandatory. Florida uses CE Broker as its official CE tracking system. Your CE provider should report completions to CE Broker. If not, you can self-report. Courses must be approved by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Oversight and listed in CE Broker.
- First renewal exemption. EMTs and Paramedics renewing for the first time are exempt from CE requirements. However, you must still have current CPR (and ACLS for Paramedics).
- Medical director affirmation accepted. The Department will accept an affirmation from your EMS medical director, or a certificate of completion, as proof of meeting CE requirements.
- Renewal available 90 days before expiration through MQA Online Services.
- Electronic fingerprinting now required (per HB 975, 2024 legislative session).
- CAPCE-accredited courses are accepted.
- Certifications expire on December 1 of the expiration year (verify your specific group expiration date — Florida renews in groups with April 30 or July 31 deadlines for nursing, but EMS follows its own schedule).
